Two Oakville Moms; Robin and Marjory with kids ranging from 10 to 18 are passionate about food - especially when it comes to feeding our families.
With friends that are farmers, they have always strived to eat local foods and are concerned about the long term effects conventional farming methods have on the earth and our bodies.

Intrigued with the idea of a 100 mile diet.

"Although it is just not realistic for many Ontario families to eat 100% local foods, we feel that making a concentrated effort to increase our families' consumption of local foods makes us feel better, and of course the food tastes better too!
"We got the idea for Daisy's from a similar operation in Waterloo where a small group of families bought food from local Mennonites and made it available to their neighbors. They then grew their passion into a real service to local families as well as providing a wider distribution network for local organic farmers and producers.
We know many busy moms who just don't have time to go the farmers markets, but would still like to access the best local food for their families. We think Daisy's Local Harvest is an excellent solution for families busy working, commuting or going to their cottage on the weekend - it's an easier way to access nutritional, local, organic foods when you don't have time to go to the markets yourself. We have visited with the farmers too, who work long, long hours to continue to provide good healthy food but who are restricted in accessing all communities. Having a stall at one farmers market in Toronto can prevent these farmers from accessing other markets like Oakville. Unlike many of the box programs that are out there, we feel that Daisy's allows people to choose what they would like to feed their families. Not everyone wants to eat Kale every week! Similarly, by having a pick-up or delivery option we hope to be able to give people the choice of having the more flexibility. As we grow, we will expand our offerings to provide a wider selection of products. Families can choose what local foods they wish to purchase - currently we are offering a wholesome selection of local organic fruit, vegetables and bread.
Our customers select from our website and order on-line.
Orders need to be made by noon Tuesday so that we can tell our farmers what needs to be picked and delivered to us on Thursday. They bring their fresh foods to us, and we pack your order for you.
You can choose to come and pick it up Thursday afternoons between 3:30 and 6:30 at Maple Grove United Church, or for a nominal fee, delivery can be arranged.
We have minimum overheads and therefore feel that we can be price competitive with large organic retailers.
Working with the Halton Health Department we are expanding our product porfollio to include tortilla's, tortilla chips, gluten free products, jams, jellies and pickles and hopefully this fall, cheeses and some meats. Apart from the health benefits, we see this as a real community effort by linking farmers to the community. Most of the farmers we talk to, go to farmers markets several days a week which takes them away from their primary function of farming, we are hoping by making their produce available through this buying club they may not need to spend so much of their time at the markets. (well, that's what we are hoping anyway)

Is A Small Business Blog Good For Your Local Store?

Remember when you were a kid, and your Mom used to send you off to the local shop to pick up some milk or a paper?

Am I taking you back to better days?

A generation ago, we didn’t have big superstores demanding all our cash and plying us with exotic foodstuffs like guavas and peri-peri sauce.

Do you ever get the feeling that we are missing out on something good, with the advent of mass consumerism?

Love it or hate it, we are evolving, and the simple village store is one of the casualties of this evolution.

Does a small business blog serve the same function as the traditional
village store used to?


Our homepage is our shop front, and the fonts and colours we use represent our wares as surely as the sign outside the shop. We invite people in beyond the front page and open up subjects for conversation, displaying our wares just as if we had shelves to put them on.

People often comment that the web is destroying community values, but the online revolution is simply replacing traditional ways of shopping and building relationships with new ones.
